Losing weight is, above all, a question of hormones. They are our body's chemical messengers, the ones that regulate hunger and satiety, the ones that modulate the digestive capacity to absorb calories, but also mood, serenity and sleep, conditions that push us to eat more or less. Endocrinologist Annamaria Colao offers a change of perspective. For years she has been studying with her team at the Federico II University of Naples the delicate balances that dictate our relationship with the table, and the synthesis of her research is finally presented in a book, The Hormonal Diet, a manual that offers the information that will allow you to lose weight in a healthy, fast and lasting way, acting at the root of your metabolism.
Readers will discover which foods to encourage and which to limit depending on the time of day and the phases of life. The diet proposed by Professor Colao is divided into four hormone-driven plans that intertwine and alternate at different times of life. The insulin stop plan aims to reduce circulating insulin by targeting fat reserves and, in particular, abdominal fat. The second plan, the serotonin plan, is accompanied by the release of serotonin, the good mood hormone. The third, leptin, restores the balance between ghrelin and leptin, the two hormones involved in hunger and satiety. The last plan, melatonin plus, promotes the production of melatonin, the sleep hormone, and allows for a periodic restart of the metabolism. The hormone diet is part of the ‘Science for Life’ series, conceived and directed by Eliana Liotta.
‘For years I have been studying the relationship between hormones and weight: my diet provides the information you need to lose weight in a healthy, fast and lasting way.
