The sutras — literally, “aphorisms” in Sanskrit — are considered the foundation of Buddhist doctrine, as they reflect the words of the Buddha himself, as recorded by his disciples. This volume brings together the two fundamental sutras within the Buddhist tradition. The Sutra on Mindfulness, translated into Spanish for the first time, is regarded as the pinnacle text of the Theravada school and contains the Buddha’s teachings to his monks regarding the practice of mindfulness as a path to encountering Reality. The Diamond Sutra likewise holds the highest status within the Mahayana school, and in it we find a subtle dialogue between the Buddha and his disciple Subhuti, which addresses the importance of going beyond all relativism and the deceptive appearance of duality. In short, these are two texts of value not only for their intrinsic merit but also for the opportunity they offer the reader to approach the very roots of Buddhism.
