The great city of Los Angeles is once again present as it always is in the writing of Charles Bukowski. Despite being located within the Californian paradise with its oranges, sunshine and wine, this is a hellish city. Bukowski has the attitude of a crazy hermit, with a desperate clarity and the humour of a drunk in a lonely bar. He laughs at everything, trying to make some money for a drink or a whore without having to work much. He hates humanity and locks himself away in his room, entertaining himself by telling us the stories that occur to him or that have actually occurred.
