Trent Rexroth is a businessman who is forced to accept Edie Van der Zee, the daughter of his main competitor, as an intern at his company. Since Trent doesn't like blackmail, they don't get off on the right foot. Also, Trent is cold and calculating and hardly ever talks to Edie, as he doesn't trust her.
