Knut Hamsun's Pan, written while he lived in Paris, is a work of great beauty and simplicity, heavily influenced by Dostoevsky. Set in Nordland, the novel follows Thomas Glahn, a solitary hunter accompanied by his dog Esopo, who lives in a hut in northern Norway. His quiet existence is disrupted by the arrival of the mysterious Edvarda. Despite many varied interpretations, the novel remains an enigma, as the author himself described.
