White Nights is one of Dostoevsky's first novels and undoubtedly one of his most moving. It is the most stark expression of human kindness, the story of a nameless man capable of anything so that his beloved may achieve happiness. We are faced with a Dostoevsky who knows he is called to write, a young dreamer in search of happiness on earth. And this spirit is transferred to the narrator, the protagonist of White Nights, a twenty-six-year-old young man who leads a solitary life in St. Petersburg, a city through which he takes long walks every day. Until, on one of them, he, who has never met a woman, sees a young woman crying while leaning on the railing of a bridge that crosses the Neva River. He wants to approach her, ask her what is happening, he doesn't dare, but instead he scares away a drunk who has come to bother her. The two young people will see each other three more nights and one morning on the docks by the river, in the city deserted by the summer holidays. Their stories will be told, a dazzling love will be born between them, but then the shadow of a third person appears...
