Tragicomic and melancholic, this novel presents us with a leaden and totalitarian world, dominated by blind and impersonal forces. A bleak human landscape in which intelligence is nullified by brute force and violence, and in which chaos inevitably sweeps away characters who, between conformity and insignificance, fail to create a new, less cruel and less drab order. The outbreak of violence doesn't even reach the level of revolution, and life in this small, anonymous Hungarian town is immersed in an atmosphere of terror and bitter irony. "Melancholy of Resistance" is a masterpiece of dark humor.
