1919. A fatal injury in the Great War cuts short Lou Crane's brilliant dancing career. At the funeral of his best friend, an acquaintance takes pity on him and gets him a position as a performing arts teacher in a remote town whose inhabitants are struggling to revive after the ravages of the bombings.
