On December 22, 1972, the world discovered that 16 of the 45 passengers of the Uruguayan Air Force plane, which had crashed in the Andes ten weeks earlier, remained alive. No one could escape their astonishment. Without food, enduring extreme temperatures, facing all kinds of adversity and with little hope of rescue, they did the unimaginable to survive. Pedro Algorta never spoke of his experience in the Andes, as what happened in the mountains was a private matter for him.
