Much more than mother and daughter, Lorelai and Rory are, in truth, best friends. They have learned to face life with each other as their only ally, and that bond has made them inseparable. When Lorelai, barely sixteen years old, arrives in Stars Hollow in search of a place to raise her daughter, she finds in that small, picturesque town not only a fresh start, but also the promise of a future full of possibilities. Very soon, both of them will come to see it as the best home imaginable. Their routine is made up of small rituals: having breakfast and coffee at Luke’s, catching up on Miss Patty’s gossip, exchanging greetings with Sookie and Michel at the Independence Inn... and then, at last, the day can begin. But an unexpected piece of news comes to disrupt that balance: Rory has been accepted into Chilton, a prestigious private school that could open the doors to Harvard. The problem is that the tuition is beyond Lorelai’s reach, and the only way to fulfill her daughter’s dream is to confront a past she thought she had left behind. Meanwhile, Rory is thrilled about her new destination, though in her heart still beats the excitement of a recent encounter: that of a boy who could become her first great love. Everything is about to change. And with it, the lives of the Gilmore girls will become much, much more interesting.
