LA COMADRONA

Sardinia, 1917. Mallena was not born in Norolani, yet the village has come to think of her as one of its own. She arrived sixteen years earlier with Jubanne, who married her to save her from a dark fate. Since then, she has been the village midwife, attending every birth without ever asking for payment or passing judgment. All she offers is the ancestral knowledge passed down to her by her mother. She is a strong, generous woman, quietly defiant. Everything changes when her husband returns wounded from the front. Desperate, Mallena asks the town council to pay her for her work. The answer is contempt... and a replacement. From the mainland comes Angelica Ferrari: young, educated, and determined, she has defied both her family and society's expectations. But in Norolani, her qualifications mean nothing ... she is still an outsider. They should be rivals, yet the real enemy lies elsewhere. Mallena and Angelica, different yet alike, have both fought to be free in a world that always demands more of women. When the past returns, the entire community will come together to demand justi e.
