Ana tells her son fragments of a story of a life made up of small miseries with which personal and family relationships have been woven. The author avoids narrating great historical events in order to focus on the intimate and everyday in the lives of people injured by betrayal and disloyalty. The Good Letter follows the Balzacian concept of the novel being the private history of a nation, and discovers the mechanisms which function as history’s silent motor. During this process an entire generation rises up on the ashes of the one before it, and every time power changes hands it takes place under the slogan of betrayal and a suffering which, being useless, is also a harsh form of clarity.
