Johanna is an artist and has spent the last three decades living in the United States with her husband and son. After the death of her husband, Johanna returns to her native Norway. A gallery has invited her to a retrospective exhibition, with a new work of hers as its centerpiece. Johanna rents an apartment by the fjord and a small cabin in the woods outside of town. As she traverses the city, back and forth between the two places, she seeks to make sense of her life in the work that lies ahead of her and a discovery that links her past with her present.
