The various armed conflicts that arose between 1939 and 1945, outside the context of World War II — the wars between the USSR and Japan and Finland, the war between Peru and Ecuador, the Slovak uprising, and the struggles initiated by nationalist armed movements in regions such as Iraq, Iran, Indochina, Indonesia, and Burma — constitute fundamental confrontations in contemporary history, even though they are frequently overlooked. Nevertheless, their analysis is essential, given their territorial or internal nature, as it allows us to move beyond an overly focused view of the global conflict and reveals the persistence of specific regional, national, and ideological dynamics. These wars, overshadowed by the general conflict, were fundamental to the political evolution of their respective territories and, in many cases, shaped them and acted as a prelude to the ideological and geopolitical confrontations of the Postwar period, from the Cold War to Decolonization. Wars Not Remembered analyzes and studies the causes, development, and consequences of these conflicts, and compares them across continents to discern both their differences and common patterns. A study that qualifies the view of this historical period and underlines that the armed violence of the 20th century was not limited to a single scenario or a single logic of confrontation.
