In a matter of a few months, I witnessed two of the events that I most fear in life: the death of a son for his parents and the death of a young woman for her husband and children. Somebody said to me afterwards: you are a writer, why don’t you write our story? It was a responsibility which I accepted. I began, therefore, to tell the story of a friendship between a man and a woman, two survivors of cancer, both crippled, both judges, who worked on cases of over-indebtedness in the court of record of Vienne. This book speaks of life and death, illness, extreme poverty, justice and above all, love. Everything they say about it is true.
