Arek hadn't given much thought to what would happen after completing the prophecy that said he was destined to save the Kingdom of Ere from its treacherous ruler. So now that he's (somewhat clumsily) managed to behead the evil king (magic swords found in the swamps, it turns out, don't come sharpened from the factory), he and his motley crew of quest mates don't know what to do. As a temporary safeguard, Arek's best friend and wizard, Matt, convinces him to assume the throne until the true heiress can be rescued from her tower. But there is a problem: she is dead. Now Arek is trapped in his new position, one that carries a magical trap: either you choose a soulmate before your eighteenth birthday or you wither away to nothing. With his eighteenth birthday just around the corner, Arek embarks on a quest to find a spouse and save his life. But his attempts to seduce his friends go disastrously wrong until he discovers that love could have been right in front of him all along.
