On the eve of the birth of his son, a young man decides to reconstruct the story of his father, who died years ago ravaged by illness and poverty after a long process of mental decline. To do this, he turns to the only three living people who could shed light on that biography, marked by a dark family trauma. Putting together the pieces of this puzzle of voices, we gradually discover a kind of mythical family parable capable of touching the archaic areas of the human heart. Thanks to an elegant workmanship and a language that, opening to oral rhythms, is lost in the discursive meanderings typical of the testimony genre, Antonio also offers an impressive portrait of the bourgeoisie of São Paulo. We witness the parade of several generations that, as they occur throughout the recent history of the Western world, reveal the disparity of their destinies, their deep moral and intellectual cracks, as well as the fatality of their prejudices.
