¿Alguna vez te has sentido solo/a? ¿Te has preguntado qué hay detrás de este sentimiento? ¿Cómo podemos cambiarlo?

El concepto de soledad ha sido siempre fruto de debate y discusión a lo largo de la historia. Actualmente, con el uso de nuevas tecnologías podemos comprender mejor qué efectos fisiológicos pueden estar estrechamente relacionados con este sentimiento . Por ejemplo, el doctor John T. Cacioppo investigó cómo afectaba la soledad en la expresión genética y obtuvo resultados muy interesantes:

Dividió una muestra de 230 personas en dos grupos, uno donde incluía las personas que referían sentir soledad y en otro aquellos que decían sentir apoyo social. Observó drásticas diferencias en 200 genes, estos genes estaban relacionados con reacciones antivíricas y producción de anticuerpos. El grupo que sentía soledad mostró una llamativa menor actividad en la expresión de estos genes mientras que el grupo que decía sentirse apoyado mostró una actividad muy superior.

Por lo tanto, conclusiones que cuando nos sentimos solos tenemos más predisposición a enfermar o más dificultades para recuperarnos.

Sin embargo, el dato más significativo de este experimento es que lo que determinaba la percepción de «soledad» no era el tamaño del tejido social de los participantes , con cuanta gente hablaban a diario o con quién vivían. La soledad parte de una percepción hostil del entorno, una especie de “decisión” inconsciente que les hacía vivir desconectados emocionalmente de lo que les rodeaba.

En línea con esta nueva definición, aparece el concepto de “soledad compartida”, a través del cual podemos entender la soledad no tanto como la falta de presencia física de otros seres humanos, sino como la incapacidad de conectarse con ellos. Por lo tanto, la soledad no sería tanto una situación social como psicológica . Es un conflicto que puede sucederle con la misma intensidad tanto a un ermitaño que vive aislado del mundo como a alguien que vive y trabaja en una gran ciudad rodeado continuamente de otras personas.

Paradójicamente, a veces, por no “estar solos” experimentamos una soledad mucho mayor alimentando relaciones a través de las cuales nos sentimos cada vez más desconectados de nosotros mismos/as, más lejos de nuestros deseos, nuestros sueños y nuestras necesidades .

Sentimos separados de lo que nos rodea solo refleja, en realidad, que hace tiempo que nos abandonamos a nosotros mismos , que empezamos a vivir por otros olvidándo qué queremos realmente que signifique nuestra vida, qué sentido queremos darle a nuestra existencia ya todo lo que ello abarca.

La dureza con la que juzgamos los errores de los demás y la falta de confianza que mostramos a las personas que nos rodean serán factores determinantes que influirán en esta sensación de soledad. Soledad no es estar sola, soledad es estar completamente desconectado de uno mismo . Es un rechazo hacia el propio ser que se manifiesta en el rechazo hacia los demás.

Así, podríamos concluir que la soledad puede ser en realidad una oportunidad que nos brinda la vida para conectarnos con nosotros mismos, aprender a respetarnos y conectarnos con nuestra esencia . Toda relación sana y constructiva parte de dos seres humanos capaces y autónomos. En muchas ocasiones necesitamos mirar hacia dentro, conectarnos con nosotros y reconocernos para saber que, en realidad, estar “solo/a” es una elección.
